Students will learn the basics of guitar playing over the course of a month in a friendly group atmosphere that gathers once weekly. Each learner will be guided step-by-step as they observe, practice, and apply new skills. Students are encouraged to find the joy in creating music even during the learning stages. Session Focuses: Session 1: Parts of the guitar, holding the instrument, hand placement, tuning, and gaining familiarity with the strings; Learn to play chord A Session 2: Learn to play chords E & C; Strum Along to Songs! Session 3: Learn chords G & D; Strum Along to Songs! Each class will start with a short warm up. These are little tricks that help get the student's hand and mind more comfortable with all the elements that make a good guitarist. We will then cover the week's material listed above, as well as review what we learned in the previous class. Students can learn through observing techniques, hearing and comparing sounds, discussing experiences with peers, asking the instructor questions, considering the instructor's advice, and testing out the instrument through independent exploration! Each student is encouraged to share their music with their microphone on at Group Music Moments or during a Solo Music Moments, though they may remain muted if preferred. We also occasionally utilize songs (such as Kidz Bop) in class to have a familiar tune to play alongside!

Teacher expertise and credentials
I have played guitar for over 15 years. My first 4 years of lessons were from a professional heavy metal guitarist focusing mainly on electric guitar and rock/metal music. Later, I moved my focus to acoustic guitars and pop/country/indie music. While I am a life long learner always gaining new skills, I now no longer take guitar lessons, but teach them. My students so far have ranged in age from age 5 to age 45.
