Dungeons and Dragons is the most popular tabletop roleplaying game in history, played by millions of people of all ages worldwide. Playing it uses theatrical improv, some basic math, creative problem-solving skills, and lots of imagination. To streamline this adventure, I will provide pre-made 5th level characters for the players to choose between, or experienced players can build a character using PHB and Standard Array. We start with choosing characters and going over the basics of play,...
I'm offering this class because I love the game of D&D and the effect it's had on my life. I'm an avid player and DM of the game (I play in two games and run five regular campaigns), and I continue to be delighted by what happens once the character sheets and dice come out. My friendships have gotten deeper, I've become a more confident and creative person, and I get to be awesome at least once a week (which is great for self-image). I've introduced dozens of people to the game through regular beginner one-shots I run bi-weekly at a local game cafe, so I am daunted neither by the complexity of the game nor by off-the-wall questions. I've probably heard it all before.
6 files available upon enrollmentI will provide character sheets, and a free copy of the game rules. Students will either use the online dice roller linked below (free) or need access to their own set of seven polyhedral dice (available online or from local game stores for prices ranging from $5 a set to $15+).
2 hours 40 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
Depictions of fictional violence will occur throughout the class. No sensual content will be allowed, and the general rating of the "mature themes" mentioned above shouldn't exceed PG-13-level.
