Class Experience

Beginner Level
Would you like to dance like the dancers on 'Strictly Come Dancing' or 'Dancing with the Stars'?  

This beginner class is a Group Lesson in Ballroom & Latin American Dancing.  The class runs weekly and dancers may join at anytime.  We will be dancing solo during this class learning the rhythm, technique and steps of different Ballroom & Latin dances.  Short combinations will be taught as well as fun dances. 

Ballroom & Latin American Dances include Cha Cha Cha, Waltz, Samba, Tango, Jive and more!  Dances will be rotated each week.

Class Plan Example:-
Introduction & Warm Up
Rhythm & Technique Exercises of Dance E.g. Cha Cha Technique Steps
Short Dance Combination  E.g. Cha Cha Combination
Fun Dance/Cool Down

Week of April 30th, 2024:- Ballroom Class consisting of Warm Up, Rhythm, Technique, Dance Combination, Fun Dance.  
This will be the last session for Spring. 
Let me know your class time requests for the Summer/Fall.

Teaching Style:- I have a positive approach to teaching.  I like to praise and encourage.  The pace of the class will reflect the student taking the class.

Parental Guidance
As this is a dance class please ensure that children have enough free space to move around and remove anything they may bump into or knock down (e.g. your expensive vase!). Class Attire:- Please wear appropriate free-moving clothes e.g. tee-shirt with leggings. Leotard/dance skirt. Footwear:- Ballroom shoes (if you already have some and your floor surface is suitable to use them on). Other dance shoes (such as jazz/character/ballet) or bare feet are suitable depending on the surface of your home floor. Avoid socks due to the risk of slipping unless on carpet. Avoid heeled shoes due to the risk of tripping or slipping. Fitness:- Your child should be in a fit and healthy state. Please check with your doctor if you have any concerns. Potential for Injuries:- This Ballroom Dance class has very low risk for injuries when following the teacher's guidance.

Bachelor's Degree in Music or Theatre or Arts from University of London (Royal Holloway)
I have been teaching dance for over 25 years.  I am a qualified professional dance teacher with the NCDTA (Northern Counties Dance Teachers Association, UK) and the IDTA (International Dance Teachers Association). I have taught all ages of Ballroom from young to adult.  I am currently the Children's Program Director of a Dance Studio in the USA.  

I competed in Ballroom all over the U.K. until I turned Professional to pursue a teaching career during which time I have trained many Ballroom competitors successfully winning events around the U.K.  I also taught the Ballroom and Latin American Society at Durham University teaching hundreds of students every week for many years before moving to the USA.  I am also a fan of 'Dancing With The Stars' and followed the UK version 'Strictly Come Dancing'; even appearing on the BBC show in some fun features!
