Class Experience

This class is made for dancers with some experience looking to push their dance skills to the next level. If you are a first-time dancer or looking for a more relaxed class atmosphere, please go to my teacher page to find "Ballet/Jazz Combo" instead of "Ballet/Jazz Combo-Accelerated"

Welcome to Ballet/Jazz Combo where you will learn two of the fundamental genres of concert dance. This class combines the grace and poise of ballet technique with the upbeat rhythm and style of jazz movement. When studied together, these two work to create a strong, well-rounded performer. Each week will include technical instruction in both ballet and jazz. In addition, the class will alternate weeks learning short pieces of choreography in ballet and jazz, new choreography every week. See a sample class schedule here:

0:10-0:25 Ballet Barre Exercises (including but not limited to: Plié, Tendu, Glissé, Passé, Piqué, Rond de Jambe, Temps Lié, Saute, Echappe)
0:25-0:35 Jazz Technique Exercises (including but not limited to: Jazz walk, Pivot turn, Box Step, Ball Change, Pas de Bourée, Chassé, Chaines, Pirouettes)
0:35-0:45 Choreography (Alternating Ballet and Jazz each week)

Please prepare for class each day by positioning your camera so that dancer is visible from head to toe. This will help the instructor to properly supervise students and to provide corrections and assistance when students perform their dance steps. Please use the restroom and prepare your dance space before class begins. This will help us use class time efficiently.
Learning Goals
Students will learn the five basic ballet positions of the arms and feet, basic ballet steps (plié, tendu, passé), basic jazz steps (jazz walks, ball change, box step, chassé), and the fundamental principles of dance: body awareness, balance, flexibility, and rhythm. 
In addition, in this class, students will learn to count music, shift of weight and body control, ballet steps (temps lié, various jumps, more complicated footwork) and jazz steps (chaine turns, pas de bourée, and pirouette turns)

Parental Guidance
This is a physical activity class. This class will include cardiovascular exercise and will utilize a wide range of motion. Class will include a brief warm-up and cool down, through additional measures should be left up to parent discretion. If your student has an existing injury or physical condition, please use caution when making decisions regarding this course and be sure to communicate these conditions to the instructor prior to class. Please be sure to clear sufficient open space so that your student has space to stretch and move. Be sure to clear all loose items from the floor. If you elect to attend class from your backyard or another outdoor space, be sure to wear protective footwear.
Supply List
Ballet and Jazz shoes are highly recommended but not required for this course.

Dancers should always have drinking water close at hand for this class.
