CLASS STRUCTURE: In this 4-week ballet class we will be working with a flexible schedule, meaning there will be no-live meetings and all material can be reviewed at your own time. In the beginning of the course each learner will be asked to introduce themselves to the group, share a little bit about any previous dance training they might have, as well as goals they are hoping to accomplish during this course. This course is listed monthly and will always start on the first calendar day of the month and end on the last day of each month. It will always include 4 pre-recorded Ballet Classes released always on the 1st, 8th, 15th and 22nd of the month, regardless of what day of the week it is. You are then welcome to take them and complete them at any time. The class content will be available to you, for the full month to do so. The class includes four full pre-recorded ballet classes going through floor, barre and center exercises and focusing on a different concept every time. All classes are recorded in a dance studio with clear movement demonstration, detailed instruction and professional sound and lighting quality. The students will be asked to complete the ballet class on their own time and submit a very short written response in the classroom, answering a few questions based on their experience. The written responses will initiate conversation between learners. Based on their responses all enrolled learners will be sharing tips, discoveries and any other artistic input they encountered each week. In addition, they will be encouraged to submit a recording of them completing each dance class, which I will be reviewing and providing personalized written feedback to each individual learner. The feedback provided will be focusing on physical, artistic and musical corrections, as well as areas I feel like each student could improve on. The video submissions will be optional. Lastly, during the last week of each session, there will be a recapping conversation during which each learner will share their main takeaways from the course, things that stood out and etc. I will also be available to discuss their progress, answer any questions that might have come up during the four weeks and offer any additional advice on ways they can continue their training. MATERIAL AND CONCEPTS COVERED: The class will start on the floor each time going through a warmup and will continue with learning the ballet positions. We will be establishing the basics of ballet vocabulary using the barre (you can use a wall/ chair/ any piece of furniture around waist-height, accessible in your home). We will work on musicality and a basic understanding of the discipline of dance through a ballet lens. After we explore multiple exercises we will move away from the barre and go through a center exercise. After each class ends, I will encourage the learners to take some time to cool down the body and stretch in order to prevent future injuries. EXPERIENCE: This class is a beginners class so no prior experience is needed. If you are not sure if this class is right for your level or age do not hesitate to reach out and I will make sure we find the best fit that will serve your learner's individual needs. SCHOLARSHIPS & DISCOUNTS: (Please contact me for more info on how to apply for either of these offerings) -All BIPOC students interested in my classes automatically receive a 50% discount off of every class they attend. -If you are experiencing recent loss of income due to the Covid-19 pandemic and are unable to afford any of my classes, please don't hesitate to reach out and I will make any necessary adjustments to make the classes affordable to you. -Mentorship scholarships are available for dancers demonstrating exceptional drive and commitment in their classes. MAKING DANCE ACCESSIBLE: -These classes are for ALL and ANY bodies interested in investigating movement. If your learner has a disability feel free to contact me in advance and we can discuss ways we can make them accessible to them. -Language: English doesn't have to be your first language to take any of these classes nor do you need to be proficient in it (In fact it's not my first language either!). Just make sure you let me know in advance so that I find other creative ways to communicate with your learner as they are taking the class. Please refer to my profile for Frequently Asked Questions.
Learning Goals
Students will gain basic understanding of the ballet technique, discover new abilities and capacities to move their bodies in different ways.
Other Details
Parental Guidance
Just a few logistics before we get started:
Find a room with some space to move and not too slippery flooring (wood usually works best or if you have a marley panel even better). Make sure you wear comfortable clothing and either ballet shoes or socks. After the class ends, the student might want to take a few minutes to stretch (I will provide the learners different stretching options) and cool down in order to prevent future injuries. Other than that you are all set and ready to get moving!
Supply List
-Soft ballet shoes (if accessible) or socks -Water bottle (if desirable) -Comfortable clothing -Ballet barre (If you don't have a barre you can use a wall/ chair/ any piece of furniture around waist-height, accessible in your home)
External Resources
