Beginner Level
Class structure: - Introduction and welcome - Tap Warm-up Exercises - Tap Technique - Social Time while changing shoes - Ballet Warm-up Exercises - Stretches - Ballet Technique - Creative Movement Activities - Cool Down and Reverence We use the Al Gilbert Tap Syllabus. From SchoolworkHelper.net: "The Gilbert Syllabus has many merits as a teaching and learning tool. Because of the wide range of levels, it can be taught to any age category and any ability level. The syllabus is designed to accommodate the enthusiasm, as well as the lack of attention span of small children. In Primary, exercises introduce basic steps such as shuffle, hop, toe back, step, ball change, dig and marches. These elements are done slowly, with many holds. This allows beginning dancers to carefully execute new movements, and gives them the opportunity to concentrate, between each movement. The slow tempo also helps young dancers who have not developed acute fine motor skills." Ballet Steps learned may include, but are not limited to: Plié, Tendu, Temps Lié, Elevé, Passé, Chassé, Grand Battement, Piqué, and various skips, hops, and jumps, used alone and in combination. Technique will be taught through structured activities, as well as with creative movement games and "silly songs," to keep young dancers engaged throughout the class.
Learning Goals
The students will learn the basics of ballet and tap technique, while also fostering the children's imaginations through creative movement. We will review ballet and tap steps learned each week, while reviewing and adding new creative movement activities each week.
