Baking with Ms. Phillips is an asynchronous class that will teach young learners the baking basics. They will learn to make three different types of cookies, two types of quick breaks, two types of pies, and two types of cakes. The classes will progress from easier to more complex in skill; however, they are not dependent upon one another. Week 1Lesson 1Introduction to BakingIn this lesson, you will learn what baking is, commonly used ingredients, and the tools you will need to be successful. In addition, I will review the upcoming recipes you will be creating. I will also share some helpful handouts you may reference throughout the course. You will complete the lesson with a fun celebratory treat!Week 2Lesson 2Bar CookiesIn this lesson, you will learn about bar cookies and how to learn how to make a brownie. I will provide you with a recipe and share ways to make it your own.Week 3Lesson 3Drop CookiesIn this lesson, you will learn about drop cookies and how to make M&M cookies or suggestions to fit your preferences.Week 4Lesson 4Rolled CookiesThis week you will learn about rolled cookies. I will share tips on how to get an evenly rolled cookie and different ways to have fun with this cookie!Week 5Lesson 5Quick Bread Loaf or MuffinThis week you will learn about making quick breads and what makes them different than other breads.Week 6Lesson 6Quick Bread SconeThis week you will learn about a different quick bread, a scone. I will show you how to get a tender and flavorful scone.Week 7Lesson 7Pie w/ Fruit FillingThis week you will learn about pies. You will learn how to make a quick pie crust as well as a delicious fruit pie filling.Week 8Lesson 8Pie w/ Cream FillingThis week we will learn how to make a different style of pie crust to enjoy with creamy pie filling.Week 9Lesson 9CakeThis week we will learn about different kinds of cakes and learn about a simple but enjoyable cake along with a homemade whipped topping.Week 10Lesson 10CupcakeThis week celebrate the conclusion of the course by learning how to make a celebratory cupcake and frosting.

I hold an associate degree in Culinary Arts, and I am currently working towards my Ed.S in Special Education and Children's Literature. I have been teaching for five years. I have taught K-5 special education and 5th grade Reading and Language Arts. I have had the privilege of working with various students with various needs. I also love baking and cooking, which is a joy share with my students. I look forward to sharing two of my joys with you and your family!
Most commonly used materials include but are not limited to: measuring cups, measuring spoons, mixer, baking sheet, all purpose flour, butter, eggs, and granulated sugar.
Parental assistance may be required when using microwave, stove, oven, and mixers when preparing recipes. Scissors and knives may be necessary when preparing, decorating, and serving. Please note: Some recipes may call for ingredients that can be allergens such as nuts, wheat, dairy, eggs, or soy. However, every effort will be made to provide substitutions to meet dietary needs.
