After introductions, the teacher will guide learners step-by-step how to make ice cream bread. While the ice cream bread is baking, the teacher will ask ice cream trivia questions. Students will have an opportunity to answer the questions. Correct answers will then be given. Learners will need to know how to preheat an oven, and how turn the oven off. If not, an adult will need to do those things for them. Using oven mitts for safety is encouraged. Learners will not only learn how to bake ice cream bread; they also will learn facts about ice cream.
Learning Goals
Students will practice measuring and practice following directions. They will learn how to make ice cream bread and random facts about ice cream.
Other Details
Parental Guidance
If the student is not experienced in preheating and turning off an oven, an adult should do this for them.
Supply List
Needed to make the ice cream bread: 1 pint of ice cream (any flavor), self-rising flour (since the recipe does not use yeast, it's important to use the self-rising kind of flour), oven mitts, a mixing bowl, a spatula or spoon to stir, measuring cups, a loaf pan, and non-stick cooking spray. Optional: chocolate chips or sprinkles. ** Please note that the pint of ice cream should sit in the refrigerator overnight (not freezer) so it can be completely melted before class begins. **
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree from Kent State University
Hello! I've been an educator for various subjects, and all different ages, for thirteen years. Now I'm a full-time educator in a middle school. In all classes, I believe that kindness is important. When possible, I like to use props
and games, both to keep learners engaged and to enhance learning. Interesting facts about me: I am a published author, and I'm a joint owner of a photography company. I enjoy fishing, reading, dancing, and walking my dog. Can't wait to see you in my classroom!
