4 in-class hoursClass Experience
Important Information for Parents: This is a beginning babysitting class. It is intended for children who either have never babysat before or are just getting started. We DO NOT cover infant care in this class. In addition, a beginning babysitter should not be expected to learn and absorb everything they need to know to be a safe sitter in a single hour of class time. For that reason, this is a multi-day camp that meets four times in the same week for one hour each day. Each class builds on the previous class(es) and cannot be taken individually. The recommended age for this class is 11-14. If you have a learner who will be 10-1/2 by the first class date, s/he may enroll – just know that they will be the youngest in the class. If you have a learner who is 15, they may also enroll – just understand that the material will be presented in a way that is easy to understand for 11 to 14 year olds. Upon satisfactory completion of all four classes, learners and/or their parents will be emailed a Certificate of Completion that they can copy and submit/show to prospective babysitting customers. If you have any questions, please reach out to me prior to enrolling your learner. Below are some of the topics we will cover in each class session: Session 1 – Basic information about babysitter do’s and don’t’s. Learners will design their own parent/child information form they will need for each babysitting client. Session 2 – Age-appropriate games and activities. Learners will list the items to include in their babysitting kit which they will take to each job. Session 3 – Handling emergency situations, including what to do if they feel threatened or uncomfortable with the child’s parents or older siblings. Session 4 – How to organize and manage their babysitting business. Learners will write a brief resume and design a business card if time allows.
Learning Goals
Upon satisfactory completion of this class, learners will be equipped with the knowledge and training they need to be a safe and fun babysitter.
