This class will be an introduction to babysitting. This interactive class will utilize slides, visuals, questions, and discussion to cover the following topics: - Babysitter job description: your rights and responsibilities - Personal safety on the job - Types of babysitting jobs - What to expect from children of different ages and stages: newborns, infants, toddlers, preschoolers, children ages 5-7, and children ages 8-10 - What kind of specialized care children need at different ages, their developmental abilities and challenges, and ways they like to play - Skills necessary for babysitting children in each age group, especially the skills of responsibility, flexibility, creativity, and patience. - Safety hazards and basic information about keeping children safe (we will not cover first aid, in accordance with Outschool guidelines)
Learning Goals
Students will learn what to expect from children in different age groups in order to be better prepared for babysitting.
Students will learn which skills will help them succeed as babysitters.

For this class I am drawing not only from my experience as a babysitter, but also from my experience as a mom. This enables me to take a big-picture approach to the topic and teach from both the perspective of the babysitter and the parent. I have taught life skills to older children ages 11-14.
