In sanskrit, the ancient language the first yogis spoke, asana means body posture. In Awesome Asanas Yoga Class, learners will practice a variety of different body postures following the theme of the class - i.e. balancing asanas, standing asanas, animal asanas and so on. They will learn how to naturally energize their bodies and feel great through sun salutations and other active warm ups. After they have warmed up, students will learn the different asanas and practice them in a fun sequence for strength and flexibility. At the end of class, they will cool down with savasana (relaxing pose) and guided meditation. Class 1 - Seated Asanas In this first class, students will learn how to find their yoga bodies (sitting comfortable and tall). Students will be introduced to different breathing techniques to help them feel centered and calm and active warmers to warm up their bodies. Next, they will be introduced to the very first yoga pose - Sukhasana, a simple cross-legged sitting pose. They will also be introduced to the sun salutations and will practice a variety of different yoga poses to stretch from sitting. They will learn how to do these yoga poses from a chair as well and will be encouraged to try them throughout the week, especially if they are sitting at a desk to do school work or study for long periods of time! We will wrap up the class with a game for review and mindfulness exercise. Class 2 Balancing Asanas In this class, students will learn how to find their yoga bodies (sitting comfortable and tall). Students will be introduced to different breathing techniques to help them feel centered and calm and active warmers to warm up their bodies. Next, they will learn balancing yoga poses like Tree, Eagle, Warrior 3, Crow, Half Moon and more!) We will review the yoga poses learned today by playing a game and finally students will be guided to relax in shhhvasana (final resting pose). Class 3 Standing Asanas In this class, students will learn how to find their yoga bodies (sitting comfortable and tall). Students will be introduced to different breathing techniques to help them feel centered and calm and active warmers to warm up their bodies. Next, they will learn standing yoga poses like Warrior 1, Warrior 2, Triangle, Peaceful Warrior) We will review the yoga poses learned today by playing a game and finally students will be guided to relax in shhhvasana (final resting pose). Class 4 Twisting Asanas In this class, students will learn how to find their yoga bodies (sitting comfortable and tall). Students will be introduced to different breathing techniques to help them feel centered and calm and active warmers to warm up their bodies. Next, they will learn twisting yoga poses like seated twist, revolved triangle, thread the kneedle and more!) We will review the yoga poses learned today by playing a game or two, and finally students will be guided to relax in shhhvasana (final resting pose). Class 5 Backbending/ Heart Opening Asanas In this class, students will learn how to find their yoga bodies (sitting comfortable and tall). Students will be introduced to different breathing techniques to help them feel centered and calm and active warmers to warm up their bodies. Next, they will learn a basic introduction to the heart chakra (color green, located at the center of the chest) and students will learn different heart opening yoga poses like camel pose, bridge pose, supported fish pose and more! We will review the yoga poses learned today by playing a game and finally students will be guided to relax with a heart chakra meditation and resting in shhhvasana (final resting pose). Class 6 Feeling Strong! Asanas to build strength and confidence In this class, students will be introduced to different breathing techniques to help them feel centered and calm and active warmers to warm up their bodies. Next, they will learn strength building yoga asanas like chair pose, mountain pose, eagle abs and more! Students will chant and repeat a warrior dance with affirmations "I am a strong warrior, proud warrior, peaceful warrior". We will review the yoga poses learned today by playing a game and finally students will be guided to relax in shhhvasana (final resting pose). Class 7 Let's go Upside down! Inversion Asanas In this class, students will be introduced to different breathing techniques to help them feel centered and calm and active warmers to warm up their bodies. Next, they will learn inversions that they can practice safely such as dolphin pose, candle stick and legs up the well. We will review the yoga poses learned today by playing a game, then students will participate in a guided mindfulness exercise and finally they will relax in shhhvasana (final resting pose). Class 8 Awesome Asanas Relay: bringing it altogether! In this class, students will learn how to find their yoga bodies (sitting comfortable and tall). Students will be introduced to different breathing techniques to help them feel centered and calm and active warmers to warm up their bodies. Next, students will co-create a yoga relay race in which they will practice a combination of the different yoga poses we learned over the last 7 weeks. Students will be invited to present 1-2 of their favorite yoga poses and as a class we will practice their choice of yoga asanas. We will wrap up by playing a game and students will participate in a guided mindfulness exercise. Finally, they will practice finding stillness and relaxing their entire body from head to toe in shhvasana. Materials repeat back at the beginning after 8 sessions :) However, material will be presented slightly differently so that students whom wish to continue can review and build on to what they have already learning, while new learners can also join in! I will be participating with the learners and keeping them engaged by asking questions and encouraging them to get involved in the yoga class! There is no experience required for learners to participate :-)

Parental Guidance
Parents, kindly be advised that yoga is a physical activity and there are potential hazards (including, but not limited to, needing an open work space and preferably a water bottle). Although yoga is very safe, injuries can occur if not properly supervised. Please be sure that your child is prepared to follow instructions and has an open, hazard free space to practice yoga from.
