Autumn Haiku Class
In this one time class students will brainstorm a list of autumn words and will then learn how to count syllables in order to make a haiku poem about autumn. Students will be able to share their favorite things about autumn in writing.

In this class students will practice counting syllables and will learn how to use a 5-7-5 syllable format to write a haiku. Prior knowledge of syllables would be beneficial for students taking this class. The students will work together to brainstorm a list of words pertaining to autumn and will discuss their favorite things about fall. Students will then be able to use the completed list in order to start writing his or her own haiku. The students will also learn a little bit about the history of the haiku poetry form.
Learning Goals
The students will learn that a haiku poem is made up of a 5-7-5 syllable format. The students will also be able to use autumn words and sentences in order to create their own seasonal poem.
