Class Experience

We will learn the signs for different animals in a fun and engaging "Safari". I will share picture flash cards with the class to help them put the animals with the signs. The learners will play a guessing game as well as team up to "Catch that Sign Animal". Some can act out what animal they are given and other learners have sign the answer back. To learn ASL the more fun they have the better they sign. No knowledge of American Sign Language is required. Learners will have a blast using these signs and playing the games.

Hi there! My name is Cheyenne and I recently moved to North Carolina. I'm currently working for an afterschool program in my local school district. There, I get to help students explore multiple subjects, from art to science, and even ASL (American Sign Language).

My favorite topic is science, which has lead to lots of baking soda explosions and paper rockets on roofs! Life sciences also fascinate me. My in-person students have joined me in discovering how plants react to different conditions, as well as hatching and observing many kinds of living creatures. One such creature is called the tadpole shrimp which I will be listing a class for. They have remained unchanged over thousands of years. These little crustaceans are fun to watch as they hatch and mature.

American Sign Language is another passion of mine. At age 15 I took an advanced ASL course that had us interact with the deaf community regularly. Those interactions made me fall in love with the language and culture. In 2016 I went ahead and got certified to teach ASL using a leading doctor's teaching techniques. Using those techniques, I have taught ASL to grades 2-8. One class I will do here on Outschool, is ABC stories in American Sign Language. We will explore how, with different ASL handshapes, a whole story can be told. This is a common game deaf play and it builds creativity in new signers.

Now, who loves food? Everyone! Bread is at the top of my list. Starting in 2019 I started making sourdough bread. From garlic cheese rolls to yummy cheddar crackers, sourdough never disappoints! I look forward to helping students create their starter sourdough and making so many delicious loaves of bread.

Thank you for taking the time to get to know a little bit about me. Looking forward to meeting you soon on Zoom!
