Class experience

Goals and objectives for the student by week ten is as follows:
1. To know basic vocabulary and possess basic grammar skills for communication.
2. Ability to make introductions and share personal information about self, family, basic desires and interests.
3. Ability to talk about their surroundings, giving and receiving directions as well as sharing information about where they live
4. Ability to use basic strategies for establishment and maintenance of conversations and relationships.
5. Students will have a basic understanding of Deaf Culture.
I love ASL! It is my second language and I have been a part of the d/Deaf community for more than 20 years in various capacities such as: area coordinator for a d/Deaf teen ministry called Deaf Teen Quest, freelance interpreting for the deaf and hard-of-hearing,
but most of my interpreting was in the school system. Since moving from Kentucky to Florida 5 years ago, I have transitioned exclusively to teaching freelance ASL classes for middle and high school students (ASL levels 1-3) and tutoring students one-on-one. I've also had the opportunity to work with a hearing family who has a deaf toddler.
Homework Offered
1-2 hours of homework are recommended each week.
Assessments Offered
Learners are assessed at the end of each class to assure they understand the content practiced and demonstrated in class.
Grades Offered
Handouts will be uploaded for class.
