Class Experience
ASL for Advanced Part 8 FLEX is an exciting and interactive class for students who want to continue learning American Sign Language! This class will be completely silent and is a full immersion class! We will use ASL as our only form of communication; the students will be fully emerged into the language which will greatly help increase their fluency in the language. The course will be very engaging by using PowerPoint slides, pictures, props, and animations to demonstrate and teach new vocabulary to the students. Although the course will be silent, it will be very easy for the students to follow along through the teaching style and communication tools used in class. Weekly Class Schedule: Week 1: Semantic Classifiers Week 2: Locative Classifiers Week 3: Element Classifiers Week 4: Instrument Classifiers Week 5: Driving Rules Week 6: Olympic Sports and Deaflympics Week 7: Age Descriptions Week 8: Family and Friend Relationships Week 9: Morning Routine and Descriptive Signing Week 10: Fluency Test and Review Our weekly video will be posted on Sunday of each week. Each Friday we will have discussion questions and challenges for the students to participate in. Some of these challenges include creating videos of themselves signing, participating in ASL games, working on various projects, and answering ASL trivia. During this course, the students will learn several hundred new vocabulary signs, increase their fluency with conversational skills, advance their ASL grammar, emerge themselves in Deaf culture and signing, and expand their fluency. We will learn through games, activities, stories, demonstration, and lots of practice! During each course every child will be given an opportunity to practice their signs one-one-one with me (as well as with each other) in a silent conversation using only ASL!! This will help the children learn to recognize signs as well as use ASL! This course will be tons of fun!!! If your student already knows 2,000 signs (or more) and is familiar ASL grammar, classifiers, the 5 parameters of ASL, and/or has taken my previous courses Part 1 through Part 7, then this is the class for them! If not, then Part 1 will be a good starting point, this course is called: ASL for Beginners - Learn to Sign in 10 Classes. Or feel free to message me and we will find a proper placement for your student. I am looking forward to learning, laughing, and signing with your students soon!! Class policy: Each student must have a camera on during this so that I can help them with the correct hand-forms and locations, this is an essential part of learning in this course. Student's will also be engaging and practicing their ASL signs with conversations and their hands must be seen for this. If the student does not want their face seen, they may angle the camera to only show their hands.
