Class Experience The course will begin by teaching the ASL alphabet, numbers, colors, days and some basic principles of ASL. The class size will be limited to 6 learners so that ample attention can be given to each individual. Class participation is an integral part of this learning experience and students are encouraged to practice using their ASL skills outside of class. I have chosen to use We Can Sign by Tara Adams for this class. It has excellent illustrations for each sign I will teach. I will also add fun activities that students can do outside of class to practice what we are learning. Class 1: ABC, Introduction ASL and Guidelines for fingerspelling (2-8) Numbers, Signing Basics part 1 (9-21) Class 2: Student Introductions/Basics part 2 (22-29) Vocabulary Review Grammar Review Class 3: Home, Family, Pets(31-47) Vocabulary Review Grammar Practice Class 4: Action Words (49-63) Grammar Practice Vocabulary Review Class 5: Thoughts and Feelings (65-77) Vocabulary Review Grammar Practice Class 6: Fun Activities (79-91) Vocabulary Review Grammar Practice Class 7: Food and Drink (93-105) Vocabulary Review Grammar Practice Class 8: The Great Outdoors (107-119) Vocabulary Review Grammar Practice Class 9: School and Learning (121-134) Descriptive Words (137-149) Vocabulary Review Grammar Practice Class 10: Animals Around the World (not included in book) Vocabulary Review Grammar Practice Class 11: Days, Months, Time Words (not included in book) Vocabulary Review Grammar Practice Class 12: Total Emersion Class Day (OS Teacher prepared materials) We will spend the class reviewing what we learned. The following textbook will be used in class as we learn about Deaf culture and as a resource to review signs taught each week.
Students need to purchase the book before the first class and have it with them each class meeting.

I received my Bachelors degree in Deaf Education, taught in a self-contained classroom for the hearing impaired, interpreted in a mainstreamed situation in elementary and college settings, interpreted in church/social/medical settings, taught ASL at church and college setting. Have a love for Deaf and want to encourage others to learn to communicate with them.
