Each unit is carefully crafted to build confidence and fluency in ASL. The curriculum also covers vocabulary for daily activities, hobbies, family, and home, while introducing descriptive language to help students express themselves fully. Additionally, the course integrates valuable cultural insights, helping students appreciate the richness of Deaf culture and diversity. Lessons are delivered through clear, direct instruction in English, with ASL demonstrations and captions for full accessibility. Students will engage with the material through printable practice conversations, weekly video assignments, and brief reading tasks, ensuring they apply what they’ve learned. With regular video submissions, students receive personalized feedback to track their progress and enhance their learning experience. Teacher expertise and credentials
My journey with American Sign Language began at age 8 and has been a defining part of my life ever since. Holding a BS in History Education with a minor in ASL Studies from NYU and a Master’s in Deaf Education from Western Maryland College, I have also studied at Gallaudet University and received specialized training from CAEBER in bilingual ASL/English techniques.
With over 21 years of teaching experience across various educational settings, including public, private, and homeschool environments, I’m particularly passionate about working with homeschoolers, as I’ve been homeschooling my own high school-aged children.
I believe that anyone can learn ASL, and my goal is to make this process as engaging and effective as possible. I strive to help learners not just sign, but truly connect through ASL, enhancing their communication skills and enriching their lives.
