Discover the origins of American Sign Language, debunk myths, and explore intriguing facts about ASL.

Learn the basic hand shapes of the alphabet and we touch up on fingerspelling.

Greetings & Basic Intros
Students are taught how to introduce themselves in ASL, including signing their name, basic greetings and questions.

Deaf Culture & ASL Myth Busters
In this class, we will be learning about Deaf culture, American Sign Language (ASL), and some common misconceptions.

Guidelines for Sign Production

5 Parameters & NMM
Create hand movements, shapes, facial expressions, and gestures using pantomime. Recognize basic sign parameters, inflectional patterns and non-manual markers.

Learn basic signs to start a simple conversation in ASL.

Numbers & Colors
Covering basic colors, students learn the signs for common colors like red, blue, yellow, green, etc. Students learn to sign numerical concepts from 1 to 100, telling time. They practice counting using appropriate handshapes and movements for each number, along with learning signs for specific numbers.

ASL Project Part 1 " Introduction"
Sign basic greetings, introductions, farewells, and expressions of courtesy. We will put together the first part of your ASL Introduction.

We will focus on ASL sign vocabulary building of basic common signs used in ASL.

We will focus on ASL sign vocabulary building of basic food signs used in ASL. Students will be expected to construct simple sentences using words they have learned.

We will focus on ASL sign vocabulary building for feelings signs used in ASL. Students will be expected to construct simple sentences using words they have learned.

Big Review- Receptive & Expressive Quiz Students will turn in their final project on Flipgrid of them signing an introduction about themselves. Take a quiz on comprehension.
This class is taught in American Sign Language.
  • Objectives: 1. Students will be able to fingerspell the manual alphabet by memory. 2. Students will be able to fingerspell their names. 3. Students will be able to sign essential words and phrases. 4. Students will know how to sign several vocabulary words
Introducing ASL Kids Club's accomplished team of ASL instructors:

- **Ms. Trina:** With a career spanning over two decades, Ms. Trina boasts extensive experience as an Educational Interpreter and Tutor, having closely worked with deaf and hard of hearing students across various school districts. Her enthusiasm for sign language is evident, fueled by her own Deaf family members.

- **Ms. Lisa Marie:** Ms. Lisa Marie brings a unique linguistic perspective, being proficient in English, Spanish, American Sign Language, and Nicaraguan Sign Language. Her teaching journey of more than 10 years has encompassed roles in teaching, assisting, and mentoring students and interpreters.

Homework Offered
Homework assignments in this course will be diverse and based on classroom activities. Each week, students will have the option to engage in various forms of homework, including practicing their skills through provided links or uploading videos of themselves completing sign language assignments. Participation in these assignments is not mandatory but is highly beneficial for skill enhancement. Additionally, some homework may be accessible through Nearpod, for which no account creation is required. The intention is to offer students flexible opportunities to practice and reinforce their learning every week, although completing these assignments is not a requirement for all students.
Assessments Offered
Quizzes will be administered at the conclusion of each unit to monitor and evaluate the progress of our students in American Sign Language (ASL).

In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
I will be using outside websites such as Canva and Youtube to assist in learning,  playing interactive games, and tools to help manage slide show presentations, flashcards, videos, and quiz games.
