Class Experience

US Grade 3 - 6
In this one time class students will discuss and debate the benefits and risks of artificial intelligence, robots, and advanced technology while engaging in fun games and unique activities.
If you are 10+ minutes late to class I can reschedule you to another section at a later time.
We will discuss what jobs robots and AI are already doing in place of humans, and what jobs we do and do not trust in the hands of advanced technology. We will discuss what benefits and disadvantages come with using advanced technology, such as AI and robots, to help us do every day tasks.
We will also learn about suprising things that robots are already capable of doing, and discuss whether we think robots will soon be as advanced, or become more advanced, than humans! This includes debating whether robots will be able to think or feel emotions.
As a teacher and a learned I strongly believe in igniting a students' prior knowledge and interests in order for learners to retain information and be engaged in the learning. Research shows that students can only focus on a task for 12 to 15 minutes before their brains need a break to process the information, cool down, and pick back up again. (Zaretta Hammond, Culturally Responsive Teaching and the Brain, pg. 126) This is why my lessons are crafted with multiple topic-related learning games and activities for students to choose from. Students also need a say in their learning, and the diverse sub-topics and activities included give students a chance to take control of their learning.
I like to teach by listening as much, or even more than, I speak, and act acting as a facilitator for students to draw their own conclusions versus giving students what I think the answers are.
Learners will get to interact with me and other students by by reading two 3 to 4 minute articles, observing intriguing images, playing activities and games, joining in discussions prompts, and more to get their creative juices flowing.
Learners are not required to have an background knowledge on the subject because two short 3 to 4 minute articles, as well as the images and discussion prompts provided, will give them with enough background knowledge to feel confident to discuss and debate.
Learning Goals
