Class Experience

US Grade 4 - 6
Beginner Level
The course will teach about the importance of art and being creative. We will explore creativity, colors, textures, and how we can use art to celebrate. I use Bloom's Taxonomy to (remember, understand, apply, analyze, evaluate and create) to teach overall concepts. This will be integrated in how we use in art in our life. Students will explore a variety of materials during the creative process and learn art techniques through modeling. They will develop their observational and critiquing skills to reflect on and interpret works of art. My teaching style is interactive and collaborative. I will use slides and inspire discussions around the themes which will drive our art expressions. The four topics themes that will be taught are:
Week of May 4 - Topic 1: Abstract/ Theme 1: Community
Week of May 18 - Topic 2: Exploring primary & secondary colors/ Theme 2: Creativity
Week of May 25 - Topic 3: Using Textures/ Theme 3: Curiosity
Week of June 1 - Topic 4: Landscapes/Theme 4: Confidence

Teacher expertise and credentials
Doctoral Degree in Education from Pepperdine University
I have been an educator for more than 30 years as a special education teacher, curriculum coach, assistant principal and principal in very challenging communities. I have also taught at the college/university level. In this era, it is important for students to have a strong sense of their identity, talents, gifts and abilities. This will help them achieve in any area when they know who they are and feel valued. I strongly believe in building collaboration, capacity, community and connection. I love to empower my students with positive affirmations and a roadmap to their dreams.
