US Grade 2 - 5
Beginner Level
This course is focused on using art to support wellness, and for students to learn more about themselves and their environment. This course is inclusive and respectful to all students. There will be a different focus every week; Sense of Self, Sense of Peace and Sense of Place. Classes start with a discussion about each topic (although participants do not have to talk if they don't want to), then art making, then there is a discussion about the works made. This is NOT a group therapy course. Discussions are to remain light. If a student seems to need/want to talk more deeply about something, I will let them know that this is not the right place for that (in a very supportive and caring manner) and let the parent know. My teaching style is to listen to students, and support their own individual creativity. Kindness is very important. I work very hard to make sure everyone is treated with respect, and treats others with respect. Students should come away with a deeper knowledge of themselves and their creativity. Ideally, they can take what they experienced in the class with them as a way to support their wellness. This can take the form of helping them alleviate day-to-day stress or anxiety. Students should have drawing paper or heavier paper than copy paper, pencils, colored pencils, markers, paint, brushes, cardboard, scissors, glue, magazine or other collage materials. Please include any art materials that participants already like to use.
Learning Goals
Participants will learn more about themselves and about using art for wellness.
