"Art Playground! An Ongoing Exploratory Art Club" is an ongoing art class developed for students who want to learn new artmaking techniques, explore with the art materials they already have, and create original artworks in a fun and supportive class environment. This class is all about guided play, experimentation, and confidence-building! Each week, we'll learn one technique or skill inspired by a modern or contemporary artist and discuss how these techniques can be used to create meaning or interest in an artwork. After a brief discussion and demonstration, students will be free to interpret this technique in whatever ways they feel inspired to! The "final" result of each class may be a painting, drawing, collage, or even a "process page" in a sketchbook. These projects will be adapted to student interest, so we will vote on the next week's activity at the end of each class. Throughout our sessions, we will be focusing on artmaking as an ongoing process that can foster creativity, flexibility, problem-solving, and curiosity. Aside from the initial demonstration, there will not be a step-by-step tutorial - students are not be expected a create a copy of other artists' works but instead experiment with these techniques as a way of enhancing their own practice :) The ongoing format of this course allows students to join at their leisure without fear of "missing out" on the content covered in previous sessions. Families will be billed weekly each Sunday before the next class and can end their subscription at any time.
