Class Experience

Let's paint animals with our hands!

In this ongoing course, we will meet once a week to paint a different animal from around the world using our handprint. This class offers a fun and social environment for students who love animals and art. Combing the two, students will be able to create a new picture each week whilst learning some interesting facts about the animal we are painting.

Students choice in animals will be taken on board and included wherever possible. For example, if a student loves horses, we will paint a horse one week.

During the lesson, students will be invited to follow directions in order to create their handprint animal. Students are encouraged, but this is optional, to share what they know about the selected animal each week. After creating the handprint, students are also encouraged to embrace their creativity and paint other items such as the animal's habitat or the food it likes to eat.

This class is very flexible and although instructions are provided, students can incorporate their own ideas into their pictures. It is their work, so I do encourage students to work as independently as possible.

I also appreciate that some students may wish to participate, but are not keen on painting their hands. This is absolutely fine. I have had previous students prefer to use a paintbrush directly onto the paper, or drawing around their hand and painting their handprint on the paper itself.

The aim of the lesson is to ensure all students enjoy the creative opportunity available to them, learn some fun animal facts, and be involved no matter their preference for painting tools.

We have previously painted a giraffe, lion, mermaid, cheetah, and monkey.
Learning Goals
Students will improve their listening skills and being able to follow directions and instructions.
Students will learn a couple of fun facts regarding each animal we paint.

Hello, it's lovely to meet you! I'm Catherine, a qualified primary teacher and home educator from the UK.

I am incredibly passionate about encouraging the next generation to be proactive with conservation and protecting our planet. You'll see many of my classes are themed around my love for animals, endangered species, habitats, and conservation.

Young students care deeply about our world, are enthusiastic and keen to learn about sustaining our planet. My classes are aimed mostly at 4-6 or 5-7-year-olds for this very reason.

As a qualified primary school teacher and ESL teacher, outside of my animal-themed classes, I also offer a range of fun, activity-led classes focused on phonics, book clubs, early math, and ESL.

Outside of teaching, I love nothing more than spending time in nature with my family. I have two children, 6 and 4, whom I home educate with my husband. We spend as much time as possible visiting nature reserves, local wildlife parks, and hiking with our dog. My DSLR camera is always on hand to capture the incredible sights we see, from migrating birds in winter to summer-blooming flowers.

Nature and the world around us is a huge part of our life. With my classes, I help young learners with a passion for our incredible world, by answering their questions, providing cross-curricular activities, and extending their prior knowledge.

My live lessons are often discussion-based within a relaxed and friendly environment where everyone has the opportunity to participate. Flex classes offer learners an opportunity to study the content at a pace or time zone that suits them. Due to them being no live lessons, these classes are jam-packed full of cross-curricular activities for students to enjoy and share with their peers.

Interested in finding out more?! GREAT!

Come along and join one of my classes below. I cannot wait to meet you.

Catherine
