Become inspired by 3 contemporary artists; Jean Michel Basquiat, Willow Bascom, and Carol Rosetti; as you create projects based their work. Each week, we will explore one artist and their unique techniques w/an emphasis on self expression and the goal of discovering our own artistic voice. 3 lessons//3 Weeks
Week 1Lesson 1Jean Michel Basquiat - Abstract Acrylic PaintingWe will learn a bit about Basquiat, and talk about how he used shapes, numbers, and symbols in his work to tell a story. We will then paint our own Basquiat style self portrait.Week 2Lesson 2Willow Bascom - Creating PatternWe will learn about current artist Bascom, and how her world travels influenced her use of pattern. We will then practice making our own patterns, and paint a portrait of our favorite animal filled with repeating "doodles".Week 3Lesson 3Carol Rosetti - Encouragement PortraitsWe will learn about Rosetti, and how she uses her portrait art to celebrate people's differences and help the people she interviews and draws feel confident and powerful. Then, we will make our own encouraging self portrait using watercolor markers, celebrating something we love about ourselves.
Students will learn about and practice a range of completely different art styles and become acquainted with some successful artists they may not have heard of. They will also gain basic skills in painting people and animals using different mediums. Students will build confidence as they start to find their own voice.
All of my classes are inclusive, and I have over 10 years of experience teaching art to students of all abilities including those with disabilities or neurodivergent students.
