Class Experience

In this class, students will learn about an artist in history and create a quick project based on that artist's style. We may read a book or look at pictures for the time period and talk about it before moving on to our project. This serves as a great introduction to art history without having to commit to a long class. Students/parents can pick the artist or time period we learn about for this one time class with a curated project. If multiple students are enrolled, the teacher will pick the artist if no requests are made.

Artists to choose from:
Vincent van Gogh, project: paper collage sunflowers
Alexander Calder, project: shape primary color painting
Paul Klee, project: Paul Klee Cat with watercolor and crayon

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! I am Mrs. Householder and I love to teach art! I will be teaching a mix of art history and art materials classes such as watercolor and acrylic painting.

I taught k-6 art for 2 years in a public school and am currently teaching 6th-8th grade art. I've also taught from ages 5-20+ in a public setting. I do have experience in working with various disabilities and am able to help your student succeed when making art. If you'd like to discuss specific things, please message me!

I believe in doing things to really learn something and I try to make my classes as engaging as I can. Art history doesn't have to be boring so I try to find fun artists from all walks of life, art movements, and ethnicities to talk about because no one is the same and it's important to learn about different artists from around the world.
Some of my favorite ways to make art are with watercolors, colored pencils, and yarn! I've crocheted for almost 20 years, drawn for about 12, and painted for around 5 years. I'm always working to learn new things though because it's so much fun to learn new art forms.
