In this ongoing class, you will learn about the famous artist of the week, art movements from different era's, then create artwork inspired by them. Using different techniques and materials.

Class Experience

In this Famous Artist / Art History class each week you will learn about a different artist and create artwork inspired by the artist using various materials, including watercolors, oil pastels, acrylic or tempera paint, markers, coloted pencils, paper collage.

The class will start with introductions. Then we will talk about the artist of the week (included will be all different artists from around the world, including Women and artists from many different cultures). You will learn a little about the artist of the "WEEK" through a brief slideshow. 

Your child can share if they know anything about the artist and we will talk about what we think of their painting style.

Note - This class needs 3 to take place.

Most weeks I will do a guided artwork that is inspired by the Artist. Then your learner can add their individual flair to it.

Here is a list of some of the artists and art we will do:-

Week of Sept 12-
Georgia O’Keeffe, create a beautiful watercolor flower.
(Materials - Watercolor paper, Watercolor paints, Water and paint brushes, Oil Pastels or Crayons, Black - Oil pastel, crayon or permanent marker (i.e. sharpie).

Week of Sept 19
Picasso, create a Cubism fish, using black sharpie and markers (materials - white paper, ruler, black sharpie, markers).

Week of Sept 26
Paul Klee, CAT & BIRD PASTEL ART (materials - colored paper (white if you don't have color), oil pastels (alternative chalk pastels or crayons).

Week of Oct 3 
Van Gogh, paint a Cherry blossom tree (Materials - Pencil, Watercolor paper or canvas, tempera or acrylic paints, including pink, white, red, green, black and brown, water and paintbrushes).

Week of Oct 10
Monet, create artwork using a watercolor and pastel resist technique to create a Japanese Bridge and Water Lilies painting.
 (Materials - Watercolor paper, pencil, watercolor paints, water, paint brushes, oil pastels (or crayons).

Week of Oct 17
Frida Kahlo
Artwork - use colorful paper to create a watermelon collage.
Materials - Lots of colored paper (including red and green), scissors, glue stick or scotch tape, oil pastels (alternative crayons or markers).

Week of Oct 24
Andy Warhol, 
Artwork - create a fun can soup painting Materials - bring a can of campbells soup (or any can you have in the pantry), white paper, colored paper (any color will work), glue stick (liquid glue or tape), pencil, black sharpie (oil pastel or crayon), something to color with (colored pencils, crayons or markers.

Week of Oct 31
Pacita Abad
Artwork - Mixed Media Circles 
Materials - White paper, oddments of colored paper or wrapping paper, paint (acrylics, tempera or water colors), paint brush, water, glue, scissors.

Week of Nov 7
Knud Pederson 
Artwork - Mail art
Materials - Watercolor paper, paint brush, water, black sharpie, colored sharpies or oil pastels, watercolor paint.

Week of Nov 14
Picasso, heart from the artist's blue and rose period. (Colored paper (pink, blue or white), ruler, black - sharpie or marker, something to color with (markers, colored pencils or crayons).

NO CLASS WEEK OF NOVEMBER 21

Week of Nov 28
Mary Cassatt, paint a duck on a pond with acrylic paint.

To experience this ongoing course it is good to stock up with various art supplies, each week I will post on the classroom what supplies to have ready.  If you don’t have something from the list, you can use whatever you do have.

The class will be interactive and we will share our artwork as we go along. I will guide you through the artwork each week, you may need to finish in your own time and share on the Classroom page.

At the end of class everyone shares their artwork and tells us a little about it.

Supply List
Here is a list of some of the supplies we will use, I will post on the classroom each week what you will need for the upcoming lesson.

White paper
Watercolor paper
Various colored paper
Pencil
Eraser
Markers, crayons, colored pencils
Glue stick or tape
Paint brushes
Paints - watercolors, tempera

If at any time you don’t have something, you can use what you do have.
