Informal Assessment of Art piece.Class Experience
In this ongoing Art class we will have fun learning about a different period of Art. We will create a drawing or painting inspired by the time period. After a brief discussion about the period of Art students will be guided through a step-by-step demonstration showing how to draw and paint their own artwork based on the time period. The students will be able to create their art piece based on the time period, but in their own style and with their own personality and creativity. The class will be step by step but allows time for each learner to create their art piece and be proud of what they create. This class will offer art activities to expand the creative experience and awareness of children in visual arts. Students will explore the styles and techniques different movements in Art. Instruction on techniques will be incorporated into the project, not a separate lesson. Each art process will focus on one time period. A brief introduction of the time period will add depth and interest to the project. The most important aspects of the art projects are discovery, exploration and individual creativity. While learning and discovering different styles, it is still up to the children to decide exactly how their art will turn out. While my directions are detailed, and I want students to become familiar with our famous artists, I also want students to be able to express their own creative voice. I encourage students to add their own unique details to make their artwork truly their own. As students work, I always make sure to provide feedback, encouragement, and additional instructions as needed. At the end of class our young artists will have the opportunity to share their artwork with their classmates. I try and wait for everyone before moving on to the next step in a drawing. However, I do have to keep moving so other students do not lose interest in the drawing. Students are welcome ask questions and seek feedback throughout class. Although each demonstration will be finished by the end of class, students may want to continue working on their masterpiece after class. Everyone works at a different speed, and it's better to take our time than to rush! The only prior skill required is the ability to follow detailed visual and verbal directions. If time allows the teacher will provide an extension activity. Extension activities may include but are not limited to a story that is related to art, or the art movement. Some lessons include slides on various art topics. If this class interests your learner, please sign up for the class. I'll take the slot and teach even if it's just one learner. I am excited to meet your learner! *Projects are inspired by a famous artist or time period. Not exact replicas. Upcoming Projects: April 15-21-cubism April 22-28-impressionism April 29-May 5-abstract expressionism May 6-May 12-surrealism
Learning Goals
-Students will become familiar with the art and style of a wide variety of art movements.
-Students will explore the elements of art through both investigating masterpieces and creating their own artworks.
-Students will gain a exposure to essential art techniques and vocabulary. Instruction on techniques will vary from week to week. There will not be a separate lesson on techniques. Techniques and vocabulary taught may include but are not limited to: landscape, seascape, foreground, background, still life, horizon line, pattern, cross hatch, watercolor resist, shading with crayon, overlapping, composition, texture and scale.
~This class is for budding artists who know that art isn't about making an exact replica of the teacher's art piece.
~Due to the variety of skill sets in the class, I try to pace the class to meet all students' needs, but this isn't always possible.
Other Details
Parental Guidance
This is class is direct instruction with some room for free expression. I do not require participation in discussions; they can choose to participate as much or as little as they desire.
Students are also free to ask questions and make comments at any point. Some of my classes are very talkative and some of my classes are really quiet. It really depends on the dynamic of the group. I don’t force learners to “follow along”, however, many of my learners appreciate the structure my lessons provide. Ultimately, it’s up to your learner to decide exactly how they want their art to turn out.
This class is geared towards beginners, however, intermediate students are welcome!
