Informal Observations of drawings.Class Experience
Each week in this beginner level drawing class students will create an exciting, new masterpiece! This is a drawing club where young artists explore various drawing techniques, share their art, exchange creative ideas and receive detailed feedback on their work. Each week we will draw a different mythological creature. Topics will include dragons, griffins, magical creatures and so much more! This class will include step by step demonstrations. Students will be able to add their own creative details. Lessons will include instruction on art techniques and skills within the step by step project. There will not be a separate lesson on techniques and skills. The instruction on techniques will be incorporated into the project of the day. Instruction on techniques will vary from week to week. Instruction on techniques may include but are not limited to: stippling, contrast, implied texture, hatching, cross hatching, mixed media, and highlighting. Students are encouraged to add their own creative flair to each project. Our goal is to have fun while flexing our artistic muscles! This course will be perfect for young artists who like trying new things and exploring different drawing styles and techniques, and for those who strive to achieve more creative freedom in their art. The course will also work really well for young artists who are lacking self-confidence and are seeking a safe and supportive art community to share ideas, create art together and receive feedback on their artwork. In our classes we will be discovering all the important aspects of drawing, such as composition, negative space, perspective, proportions, symmetry, contrast and much more. The skills we explore will depend on the specific project each week. As a teacher, I always aim to create my art classes both fun and useful, trying to give as much information along the way as possible. My goal is not to just have the students draw along, but for them to understand what they are doing and why, so that they can use this knowledge and experience in their own art. I love exploring the art world with my students and helping them to find their own artistic voices. The motto in my classroom is "there are no mistakes in Art", and I want every student to leave my class feeling like a successful artist! I try and wait for everyone before moving on to the next step in a drawing. However, I do have to keep moving so other students do not lose interest in the drawing. Students are welcome ask questions and seek feedback throughout class. As students work, I always make sure to provide feedback, encouragement, and additional instructions as needed. At the end of class our young artists will have the opportunity to share their artwork with their classmates. Although each demonstration will be finished by the end of class, students may want to continue working on their masterpiece after class. Everyone works at a different speed, and it's better to take our time than to rush! If time allows the teacher will provide an extension activity. Extension activities may include but are not limited to: a story on the theme, or slides on various art topics. The only prior skill required is the ability to follow detailed visual and verbal directions. If this class interests your learner please sign up for the class. I'll take the slot and teach even if it's just one learner. I am excited to meet your learner! Upcoming Projects: Dec. 11-Dec. 17-mythological creature
Learning Goals
~Students will explore the elements of art through step by step projects.
~Students will gain exposure to art techniques and vocabulary.
~Students will show their creativity by adding unique details to their artworks.
~This class is for budding artists who know that art isn't about making an exact replica of the teacher's art piece.
~Due to the variety of skill sets in the class, I try to pace the class to meet all students' needs, but this isn't always possible.
Other Details
Parental Guidance
This is class is direct instruction with some room for free expression. I do not force participation; learners can choose to participate as much or as little as they desire.
Students are also free to ask questions and make comments at any point. Some of my classes are very talkative and some of my classes are really quiet. It really depends on the dynamic of the group. I don’t force learners to “follow along”, however, many of my learners appreciate the structure my lessons provide. Ultimately, it’s up to your learner to decide exactly how they want their art to turn out.
This class is geared towards beginners, however, intermediate students are welcome!
