Class Experience

In this class, students will be taught the fundamentals of art, design, and color theory. Students will be challenged to use these tools in their own artwork throughout the class. We will be going over an art prompt each week that follows what we are learning, and students will be instructed to create a piece of their own based on the subject material.

This class will require a range of art materials, such as acrylic paint, watercolors, and drawing pencils. Students will be exploring different mediums while incorporating the ideas we are going over in class. Weeks one and two will be going over color theory and drawing basics such as line, shape, and value. Week three will delve into composition basics such as rule of thirds, perspective, and vanishing point. As we dive deeper, students will begin exploring different art movements that have influenced design, composition, and creative thinking, such as realism vs. abstract art. Students will be challenged to connect these ideas and find their own meaning of these different forms of art, and how it speaks to them individually. These tools will encourage students to think more creatively, critically, and conceptually about their artwork as a whole. For any students looking to pursue art as a serious hobby or career, these fundamentals are crucial and will benefit them in their artistic endeavors.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello everyone, my name is Brittany Lambert and I'm an artist teaching what I love to do.. ART!

I've been an artist most of my life, mainly focusing on drawing and painting. I earned my BA in Art in 2018, and am currently attending graduate school to become a full time art teacher. I currently live in Southern California, where I enjoy some of my favorite hobbies such as going to the beach, hiking, and of course, creating art!

I teach the basics of drawing, painting, and art theory through fun, simple projects that kids can enjoy. My ultimate goal as a teacher is to encourage students to understand how art is so much more than just learning techniques and creating masterpieces. Art is about exploring yourself as an individual and the world as a whole! I teach on Outschool to provide students a creative outlet where they can let loose, have fun, practice their skills, learn A LOT, and put forth their own ideas by expressing their artistic voice. I want students to grow knowing their ideas matter. After all, isn't that the point of creativity?! :)
