Class Experience

US Grade 5 - 8
Beginner - Intermediate Level
**The prerequisite for this course is Easy Two Point Perspective OR Advanced One Point Perspective!**
In this course, students will receive step-by-step instruction for drawing three-dimensional objects, buildings, and street scenes in 2-point perspective. We will review vocabulary terms such as the vanishing point, vertical line, horizontal line, and diagonal line. Throughout the class, we will discuss different ways 2-point perspective can be applied to art, and students will be encouraged to try out some of those ideas on their own.

Detailed information about each class session can be found in the syllabus.

Artwork may or may not be finished by the end of this class, but students are encouraged to participate in the critique nonetheless, and are also encouraged to finish the art outside of class and upload photos into the classroom.

It is important to note that I take all learning styles and needs into account and scaffold the instruction and wait time for students to finish accordingly. As some students finish quickly, they may be directed to take a break or begin a new drawing, so that others who work more slowly are given the time to keep up with artists who work more quickly.
I like to give my students simple steps, encouragement, positive feedback, and plenty of time to work on their art. My classes are about the process and the experience, not the finished product. Often we don't finish the project before class ends, and when this is the case, I encourage my learners to take a photo when they are finished and upload it into the classroom!

Syllabus

5 Lessons
over 1 Week
Lesson 1:
Review and Intro to 2-Point Perspective
Students will review 1-point perspective from previous classes they took, and be introduced to the difference between 1-point and 2-point perspective. We will practice drawing cubes in 2-point perspective. It may be necessary to complete this drawing outside of class.
55 mins online live lesson
Lesson 2:
Drawing a Building in 2-Point Perspective
Students will show their finished cubes, and discuss how this concept could be applied to a building, such as a house or barn. We will discuss and practice drawing a building with windows, doors, and a roof in 2-point perspective. We will also discuss and begin to use color in our drawings as an option (students may elect to shade theirs with pencil instead). Students may need to complete this drawing after this session ends.
55 mins online live lesson
Lesson 3:
Drawing a Room (Interior) In 2-Point Perspective
Students will learn how to use the concept to draw the inside of a room, such as a bedroom, with details. Again, we will draw details, begin to color, and may need to finish the drawings after the session ends.
55 mins online live lesson
Lesson 4:
Drawing a City Block in 2-Point Perspective, Part 1
We will discuss and apply the principles of 2-point perspective to a street-level city block, by drawing several buildings, streets, and details.

As a licensed art teacher, I have developed techniques for breaking down drawing lessons into simple, easy-to-follow steps. Once we get the basics done, I give my students freedom to complete their project using their own imagination, thereby giving them the opportunity to take what I have taught them to a different, fun and creative level.
