Class Experience

In this fun and interactive class, children will travel to five different countries and create crafts that represent each of those countries. Each day we'll look at a map and discuss a new country. We'll talk a little bit about what the country is known for, its capital, its location, and its culture. Children will have a chance to make new friends while exploring countries from all over the world and making fun crafts. Students will also receive a fact sheet and a coloring sheet after each class to do at home. They will also have the opportunity to share their new creations with their new friends!

Day 1: On Monday, we'll travel to Germany and make homemade Cuckoo Clocks. Students will need popsicle sticks, scissors, glue, pipe cleaners, construction paper in a variety of colors, and the printable (available on the classroom page before class)

Day 2: On Tuesday, we'll make a Ger, also known as a yurt, as we travel to Mongolia. Students will need the printable, crayons/markers, scissors, a glue stick, and any glitter, sequins, or stickers that they would like to decorate with.

Day 3: On Wednesday, we'll travel to Tanzania in Africa and paint a beautiful silhouette of African animals during the sunset. Students will need a canvas (or heavy watercolor paper), red, orange, yellow, and black paints, scissors, glue, and a printable.

Day 4: On Thursday, we'll practice Australian dot painting as we paint a turtle, a lizard, and a kangaroo. Students will need the printable, a variety of colors of paint, and 5-10 cotton swabs. Markers or dot markers can also be used.

Day 5: On Friday, we'll make woven cardboard llamas while we travel to Peru. Children will need cardboard, yarn, markers, masking tape, the llama printable, and scissors. Additionally, they can also add pom poms to their llama (these will need to be hot glued). Please note that students may need help cutting the llama out on the cardboard as this can be someone difficult for young children.
Learning Goals
Students will learn the location, capital, and a few facts about Germany, Mongolia, Tanzania, Australia, and Peru as they practice using fine motor skills to make artistic creations. Students will also have the opportunity to share their creations with their new friends!

I have been teaching geography for years in my own homeschool curriculum through unit studies. I greatly enjoy bringing art, music, science, geography, math, social studies and language arts into a lesson that is fun and engaging. I also love learning about different cultures and trying out different traditional recipes. I have learned that through native stories, food, and music, students can connect personally with a country, engaging their curiosity to learn even more about it.
