ARK is an expansive, open world game where the student can interact, tame, care for, and ride dinosaurs. They can also build structures much like you can in Minecraft. Students will learn game play and online collaboration strategies with their team to defeat an opposing team or participate in solo challenge. This class is a challenge club where students will be issued a challenge every week and work together with their team to complete the challenge before the opposing team. Below are examples of possible challenges: 09/07/2023--Week 1: Survive the Beach and Set up Camp 09/14/2023--Week 2: Tame Types of Dinosaurs First to Win 09/31/2023--Week 3: Gallimimus Race 09/28/2023-Week 4: Capture Specific Dinosaurs Before Opponents 10/05/2023--Week 5: Use Only Herbivores to Complete a Special Task 10/12/2023--Week 6: Use Only Carnivores to Complete a Special Task 10/19/2023--Week 7: Use Only Shoulder Pets to Complete a Special Task 10/26/2023--Week 8: Team Base Building / Destroy Opponents 11/02/2023--Week 9: Capture the Egg Event 11/09/2023--Week 10: Play Battle Royale and Defeat The Opposing Team in Combat 11/16/2023--Week 11: ARK Triathlon 11/30/2023--Week 12: Hunt the Teacher *These are just examples but do not necessarily reflect the actual challenge. Sometimes challenges will be changed due to amount of participants. The teacher will work as the facilitator of the challenge, fair-play referee, and team building coach. Each student will have an opportunity to lead their team to victory in the challenge. Students will be coached in problem solving skills, interpersonal communication, online collaboration techniques, team-work, and game play strategies. ➨ Students will also have a non-zoom experience in the server where they can individually fulfill various quests posted in the classroom. The server will be opened for students to play and get experience. This will help them be more effective in challenges. The teacher will not necessarily always be present in the server but the server is set so players cannot hurt others, dinos, or bases. Students are still required to follow our in-house rules. ➨ The "In-Game Rules" are: - Clean Language Only - No Cheating - No Displays of Anger. Talk Things Through. Listen and Kindly Communicate Your Point. - Follow Specific Challenge Rules Every Week - No Trolling or Grieving (Making It Difficult for People To Play and Have Fun) - No Sore Losers. Start Again. Think of Ways to Do Better. ➨ Is it violent? There is some natural violence since you are in a dangerous environment filled with dinosaurs. You can read more in the parental guidance section. There is no real gore but there is blood but that option can be turned off. The goal of this class does not center around highlighting this part of the game. ➨ Will you meet on zoom? Yes we start on zoom. We will also meet in a game server that I own. Only students and myself will be allowed into the server to play. All students will be connected either through Zoom or a Discord page where teams can talk to each other easily. We will try to see if zoom works well, if not, we will try discord. ***You need ARK Survival Evolved Xbox/Window 10 Version. This is not a STEAM, EPIC, or PS server.
Learning Goals
Students will increase their skills in interpersonal communication, team-work, online collaboration techniques, leadership, and learn to compromise in order to achieve the goal of winning the challenge.

Since dinosaurs can attack you the game shows blood but not gory detail. Also, the blood setting can be turned off. It can be considered a naturally violent game since you can be attacked by dinosaurs or other people.
However, this class is about finishing challenges, so they may have to hunt, capture, or tame dinosaurs. They may have to capture an enemy base or grab an enemy possession and take it back to base (capture the flag). Other challenges in include building structures, exploring maps, and finding specific items with team members.
Supply List
You need ARK Survival Evolved Windows Xbox or PC Windows 10/11 version. This is not the Steam, Epic, or Playstation version
