This is the first of nine lessons in Mrs. G.’s “Architecture Rocks” course which uses materials from around the house to build brilliant structures:)!

This is not a "graded" project, but Lesson 1 should be completed before Lesson 2. Lesson 2 should be completed before Lesson 3. Etc.Grading

In Lesson 1, students will be introduced to the world of "architectural design". We will discuss what “architecture” is. Then, we will explore the most fundamental "point" of design as a place in space and geometrically as the end of a line segment. After a demonstration of the project, students will work in class to create their "point" structures. Point structures will be made of mini marshmallows and toothpicks. Students may share their work with their peers at the end of class if they like. Students may ask questions in class and may comment on each other’s creations. The lessons in the “Architecture Rocks” course build on the previous lesson. Students are encouraged to complete Lesson 1 before registering for Lesson 2.
Learning Goals
Students will learn how to use points to make connections.
Students will learn the strongest shape and how to build with it.
Students will be inspired to continue creating after class is over. (You will end up with as many toothpick marshmallow creations as they have supplies available:).

For Lesson 1, students will need mini marshmallows and toothpicks.

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
