Class Experience

US Grade Preschool - Kindergarten
Beginner Level
In this one time class we will read stories like "How Do Apples Grow?" and "The Mouse's Apple", learn the words for apple parts and engage in apple themed PreK Skill activities like pattern making, counting and exploring letters and letter sounds.

Little learners can build great listening, observation and creative thinking skills during storytime, asking questions and using their imagination. In fact, did you know that reading aloud to kids has clear cognitive benefits? For example, brain scans show that hearing stories strengthens the part of the brain associated with visual imagery, story comprehension, and word meaning. One 2019 study from the National Library of Medicine estimated that children who are regularly read to in the 5 years leading up to kindergarten are exposed to 1.4 million more words than children who aren’t read to during those years.

We will read stories and learn how apple trees and apples grow and what the parts of an apple are called.

We will work togther to learn the words for parts of an apple and color in the apple as we explore each part with handouts included for registered learners.

We will engage in PreK skill building activities like completing patterns with different colored apples, counting apples and identifying letters and letter sounds in the names of different apples and their parts and we will engage in identifying the letters found in learners' names with our big red alphabet apple.

My classes range from 1-5 learners so I can ensure every learner has the chance to discuss and share. (I will run class with one learner!) We'll start by welcoming everyone individually, introduce our book(s) and chat about important skills like active listening and taking turns.

*It's not mandatory that your learner participate in the projects. They can observe during class and work on the activity after class too.

Lots of opportunities for discussion and sharing which is encouraged but not required to be a part of this class!

**In order to promote class discussions and participation I do not mute learners' microphones. This also helps learners practice social skills like active listening and taking turns talking. In order for this to work, students need to be in a quiet setting away from background noises (loud conversations, telephone calls, t.v, etc.). **

Supply List
Please print out the included activity pages and cut out the apples for the pattern activity. Please have learners bring coloring tools, and a glue stick to class if they wish to glue their apples into place.

If your learner would rather observe and complete the activities after class that's ok too!

** If a printer is unavailable learners can engage with most of the class activities on screen using the teacher's materials .

I have been creating classes for and teaching Pre K aged children since 2009. I was inspired to create a class about apples to encourage an understanding of how trees and plants grow and where a favorite fruit, like apples, comes from, to promote letter and letter sound recognition, explore color and pattern making fun and build on counting and number skills using apples as our learning tool.
