Class Experience
US Grade 10 - 12
This course will continue the skills and practices begun in the "No Fear AP Lang" course. These classes will focus primarily on the essays required for the AP Language and Composition exam. The first of these essays is rhetorical analysis. Students will learn to identify rhetorical strategies within texts and learn how to analyze and write about these strategies. Secondly, argument essays will be studied and practiced. We will focus on how to add evidence to support arguments in an essay. Finally, students will learn the requirements and practice writing synthesis essays. Within synthesis essays we will focus on making the source texts "talk" to each other within our writing. For all of the essays, we will read sample essays and compare them with the AP Language rubric in order to assess what is valued in this exam and what makes a strong essay. Multiple choice strategies will be discussed as requested.
Learning Goals
Students will practice and improve strategies for writing essays specifically for the AP Language exam.
