Class Experience

US Grade 9 - 12
Beginner - Advanced Level
In this class, students will improve their map analysis and free response writing skills, and also review important vocabulary that will be covered on the AP Human Geography exam in May.

In the first session, we'll improve your map analysis skills. There will be both multiple choice and potentially free response questions on the AP exam where maps need to be analyzed. Instead of just showing you a map and asking you questions about it, you will analyze multiple and real AP exam maps but without the titles, keys, and legends. Your task will be to use your knowledge and critical thinking skills to predict what the map is showing. After revealing more information about the map, you will collaborate with others and your teacher to share what you know about the topic shown on the map.

For the second session, you will practice brainstorming for free response questions by doing "quick writes". You'll be provided select topics one by one and you will spend around 1 minute sharing anything that comes to your mind about that topic such as vocabulary, examples, related topics, and questions you might have. We'll review what everyone shares in order to review that topic. Near the end of the session, Mr. Mannion will provide some important background information on how AP readers will score your free response questions.

At the third session, we'll play a fast-paced word scramble game in order to help you review the plethora of vocabulary covered in AP Human Geography.
