This is an as-needed session for students who would like help with an essay they are developing for an AP English Language and Composition or AP English Literature and Composition class. While I am very familiar with the types of essays on each exam, I cannot guarantee that I will be able to fully support you on a different type of writing project outside of these formats. Please message me and describe the type of essay you need help with if it's not one of these six formats. --synthesis (Q1 AP Lang) --rhetorical analysis (Q2 AP Lang) --argument (Q3 AP Lang) --poem analysis (Q1 AP Lit) --prose/short story analysis (Q2 AP Lit) --novel analysis (Q3 AP Lit) Please have the prompt and/or focus text available for reference during our session and if possible, share these with me ahead of time. If your essay is handwritten, you MUST submit a CLEAR, readable photo of your essay to me ahead of time so that I can print it for reference. Otherwise, you may share digital copies with me (Google doc preferred). In the session, we will begin by reviewing the prompt and, if short, the focus text (e.g., poem, prose, or rhetoric passage). I will read through your draft with you and discuss main areas of strength and areas for growth. If requested, I can assess the essay on the corresponding AP rubric and walk you through the scoring decision (note--I will be kind, but I will also be honest.) I will provide you with strategies, models, and tools (e.g., organizers, word lists) as needed to help you improve in the areas we discussed.
Learning Goals
Students will be able to improve an essay draft.
Students will be able to understand where their work currently scores on the AP exam rubric.
