US Grade 1 - 4
This FLEX class will present African jungle animals in a fun and interesting manner. Students will learn fun and interesting facts about the animals and they will learn to draw the animals following a directive drawing technique. In the first week, students will also be taught how to create a Lapbook, giving them a place to display their own lesson material and artwork. In the following weeks, there will be 2 videos I have created for the students. The videos will provide interesting information about each animal that we will be learning about. Then I will walk students through a directive drawing. that will demonstrate how to draw that particular animal. After the drawing is completed, students may choose to either color or paint their drawings. Students will also have an activity page and answer the discussion question to complete each lesson. This 6-week FLEX class is designed to meet the needs of several different types of learners: Auditory - Recorded lessons are presented in an interesting and engaging manner and lessons are available for later listening and reference. Visual and spatial learners - enjoy creating, and watching other people create so directive drawing is an excellent match for them! Verbal learner.- each class will have a word game activity to assist the verbal learner to recall interesting information Physical or kinesthetic learner. - physically engage the learner with the materials by facilitating the drawing. These types of students may do better if they create the drawing and while they are coloring they listen/watch the information video. video. This 6-week Flex class will allow for age-appropriate learning. The lecture video will be a standardized video however the home activity page will be adjusted for the age. The handout may have a coloring component for the younger children and a word search or fill in the blank to challenge the older children. COURSE OUTLINE Week 1 – Learn about the African habitats that these animals live in and Create a Majestic 5 lapbook Students will create their lapbook using 2 letter-sized file folders and clear packing tape. - Students will learn interesting facts about the habitats of these majestic African jungle animals. (Video 1) - Students will create a lapbook following a demonstration video (Video 2) - Printable cover will be provided (2 letter-sized file folders and clear packing tape) - Students will creatively decorate the lapbook *Parental Guidance is required for the use of scissors for younger students, Week 2 – Giraffe - Students will learn interesting facts about my favorite animal (Video 1) - Students will learn how to draw their own picture, step-by-step, through directed drawing. (Video 2) - Students will complete the activity page and answer the discussion question. - A photo of their drawing and the completed activities should be uploaded to the OS discussion page to facilitate student interaction and allow teacher feedback. Week 3 – Elephant - Students will learn interesting facts about this intelligent animal (Video 1) - Students will learn how to draw their own picture, step-by-step, through directed drawing. (Video 2) - Students will complete the activity page and answer the discussion question. - A photo of their drawing and the completed activities should be uploaded to the OS discussion page to facilitate student interaction and allow teacher feedback. Week 4 – Lion - Students will learn interesting facts about this majestic animal (Video 1) - Students will learn how to draw their own picture, step-by-step, through directed drawing. (Video 2) - Students will complete the activity page and answer the discussion question. - A photo of their drawing and the completed activities should be uploaded to the OS discussion page to facilitate student interaction and allow teacher feedback. Week 5 – Zebra - Students will learn interesting facts about this unique animal (Video 1) - Students will learn how to draw their own picture, step-by-step, through directed drawing. (Video 2) - Students will complete the activity page and answer the discussion question. - A photo of their drawing and the completed activities should be uploaded to the OS discussion page to facilitate student interaction and allow teacher feedback. Week 6 Leopard - Students will learn interesting facts about this graceful and powerful animal (Video 1) - Students will learn how to draw their own picture, step-by-step, through directed drawing. (Video 2) - Students will complete the activity page and answer the discussion question. - A photo of their drawing and the completed activities should be uploaded to the OS discussion page to facilitate student interaction and allow teacher feedback. This is a Flex class, meaning NO LIVE CLASSES. - Students will watch pre-recorded videos each week as your schedule allows. I will post 2 videos on a weekly schedule and learners will be responsible for watching the videos, - Students will also be provided video of step-by-step instructions for each of the drawings, an activity page, and a discussion question for the students to answer. - Students will also have the opportunity to ask questions and share their work with their classmates through the online classroom. - To enhance learning, students will be responsible for completing the activities, and posting photos and completed handouts to the classroom as they take the class Benefits of Directed Drawing: - directed drawings increase the listening skills of students. They must listen and keep up with me as I draw each part. - learning to follow directions, - drawing is FUN and we want kids to feel successful as they learn. Each drawing is unique. This class will also be offered as a Multiday class in the new year. The price will be significantly higher for the in-person version.,

I am known for my fun. interactive teaching style, I love to interject smiles and laughter into the classroom. Building confidence is the key to creating a successful learning environment so my classes are filled with positive encouragement.
I have a degree in Business Administration and Education with certification in Applied Behavioral Analysis. This education combined with my classroom, online, and homeschool experience provides me with the skills and experience to guide children to be successful.
My passions include art, writing, animals, traveling, and child growth and development. You will see these themes in the classes I teach.
I have 4 adult children and 8 grandchildren, they bring me joy! My grandchildren and their passions have provided me with some of my most fun class ideas.
I have spent the past 10 years traveling the world. I have trekked through the rainforest, swam with turtles, and enjoyed several of the wonders of the world. I have based many of my classes around these first-hand experiences.
Some fun facts about me:
I have a Havanese pup named Lola. Did you know that the Havanese breed is from Cuba and they used to be circus clowns for kings and queens? She is a riot!
I have been to Italy 11 times and I'm not even Italian!
I used to be a dental assistant so I love to go to the dentist!
