Class Experience

Each day of this course will run in the same format, but feature a different spooky animal:

Class 1: Students will learn about bats by reading and discussing an age appropriate non-fiction book. We will also read an engaging fictional book, Hattie the Backstage Bat, by Don Freeman. We will then head out on a virtual field trip and utilize the zoo’s live webcams to catch these animals in action. Finally, students will have the option to complete a coloring activity during each class (not required—links attached in learner supply list.) 

Students will also learn about black cats by reading and discussing an age appropriate non-fiction book. We will also read a silly book, Six Dinner Sid, by Inga Moore. Will we then Head out on a virtual field trip to see this animal in action. Finally, students will have the option to complete a coloring activity during each class (not required—links attached in learner supply list.) 

Class 2: Students will learn about spiders by reading and discussing an age appropriate non-fiction book. We will also read a silly book, Seaver the Weaver, by Paul Czajak. We will then head out on a virtual field trip to catch these animals in action. Finally, students will have the option to complete a coloring activity during each class (not required—links attached in learner supply list.) 

Students will also learn about owls by reading and discussing an age appropriate non-fiction book. We will also read an engaging fictional book, Owl Babies, by Martin Waddell. We will then head out on a virtual field trip and utilize the zoo’s live webcams to catch these animals in action. Finally, students will have the option to complete a coloring activity during each class (not required—links attached in learner supply list.) 

Students will have the opportunity to engage with the teacher and other students throughout the class. Sharing of prior “spooky animal” knowledge with the group is highly encouraged!
