In this ongoing class, learners will be able to use social skills in the online platform to play with other learners in the classroom. During this class it is learner led, and we will be going to different islands every week! We will be doing this by the instructor spinning a virtual wheel at the beginning of every class. ➜ Depending on class size, if we went to your island in the past 1–2 weeks, the learner's name will not be on the wheel to give everyone a fair chance to show off their island! During the first 5 minutes, which is used as prep time for the day, the instructor will remind the learners to have their Nintendo Switch console, game loaded, device charged (or grab a charger), and figure out whose island we are going to for the day. We will also be going through rules for the class so everything runs as smoothly as possible. ➜ When learners come into class, it is expected that they are prepared right away to start for the day. During the next 5–10 minutes of class, we will be traveling to the island we are visiting for the day via DODO code. PLEASE NOTE: this does require the Nintendo Online Play subscription. This will also be up on Zoom via Screen Share ➜ Go to Dodo Airlines ➜ Select "I wanna fly" ➜ Select "Via online play" ➜ Select "via DodoCode". ➜ Enter the code I've provided. During the next 30 minutes of class, we will be playing on the island for the day. It is expected that you are staying on the island for the majority of the class as it does eat into class time leaving the island to travel back and forth. (The game has a loading screen to leave and join) ➜ If people do need to leave class early, that is perfectly fine, just let me know at the beginning of class so we can keep track of time! During the last 10 minutes of class, we will be preparing to leave the island by leaving through the airport. ➜ There are ways to send everyone home all at once, but the SAFEST option is to manually leave through the airport. ➜ This will give us about 5 minutes at the end of class for learners to share anything that they want before we leave class! During class time, some ideas that we could do on the island is: go on an island tour, hide and seek (in the museum works best!), fashion shows, fishing, catching bugs, the possibilities are endless.

Here at Groovy Learning, we focus on the idea of learning while making it impactful to the outside world. We are a woman owned and family owned organization that wants to have the most impact on learners.
Ms. Annmarie spearheaded a dynamic parent/child ASL program for seven years, using sign language to bridge familial communication. Concurrently, I've spent four years immersing preschool children in the ASL world, underscoring this visual dialect's versatility. Previously, Ms. Annmarie has taught on Outschool since 2020. From Ms. Annmarie, "My affinity for ASL spans two decades. I boast an Associate's Degree in ASL Interpretation and a Child Development Associate certification in Early Childhood Education. I spent 11 years in Florida at the renowned Deaf Literacy Center, crafting tailored ASL programs for learners from infants to adults."
Ms. Nicole is hard-of-hearing and has personal, first-hand experience with the deaf community. She graduated from Colorado State University in 2022 with two bachelors degrees in Communication Studies and Interdisciplinary Liberal Arts. Personally, Ms. Nicole has taught on Outschool since 2020 as well.
We have both been using ASL and studying the language for 20+ years.
In our classes, we focus on learning and making it something that is enjoyable for each and every learner who takes our classes. We offer all age groups and all types of classes. Ms. Annmarie focuses on the 3-10 age group, Ms. Nicole focuses on the 12-18 age group, and we jointly take on the 10-12 age group as that is a transitional age group from Ms. Annmarie to Ms. Nicole.
Join me as we chart a transformative path in ASL, diving deep into its wonders. Ready to embark on this rewarding quest? Let's dive in!
