Animal Art: Realistic Panda Bear and Bamboo Sketch
In this one-time course, students will learn drawing techniques to sketch a realistic portrait of a panda bear eating bamboo (head to chest).

Class Experience
1. Students will learn techniques for sketching a proportionate contour drawing (outline) of a panda bear. 2. Students will learn techniques for smooth blending, pencil application, gradient blending, and adding contrast. 3. Students will learn techniques for sketching short, fluffy black and white fur. 4. Students will learn techniques for sketching realistic bamboo.
Since there is a lot of detail in this picture, there is a good chance students might need to finish their drawings outside of the scheduled class time.
1 file available upon enrollmentREQUIRED FOR STUDENTS: -Paper (Preferably drawing paper, but if you do not have this, regular paper is fine.) -Pencil -Regular everyday eraser (new pencil top erasers work best) -Pencil sharpener -A printed or electronic copy of the panda bear reference photo we will sketch (available upon enrollment, found in the welcome post) -Blending tool (We will practice blending skills a lot in this class. If you do not have blending stumps, please bring a tissue and/or a Q-Tip. If you are unable to get these supplies, students are fine to use their fingers to blend.) WHAT THE TEACHER WILL BE USING (OPTIONAL): -Drawing paper OR Sketchbook (You can purchase a sketchbook for around $10 on Amazon.) -Wooden pencil -Pencil sharpener -Kneaded eraser (You can purchase a kneaded eraser for around $5 on Amazon.) -Regular everyday eraser -Drawing pencils (You can purchase drawing pencils for around $10 on Amazon.) -White gel pen
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Students will be assessed throughout class and at the end of class through questions and/or sharing of drawings.
1 hour 20 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
Please be aware that this course uses materials that may be harmful to your student if used inappropriately. If you think your student may use any class materials inappropriately and/or potentially cause harm, please provide adult supervision for your student.
