Class Experience

In our Mummy Madness series, students will learn all about Ancient Egypt. Students will explore the myths and traditions of the mummies, the pyramids, and all the ceremony and superstitions that go into this long-revered culture.

Students will start each class in a community warm-up activity, then a short lesson about the day’s tradition or artifact will be led by an experienced teaching artist. Using that knowledge as a jumping-off point, students will begin an art-making project where they are encouraged to bring their own creativity and perspective to the craft they are working on. Each class concludes the way it began, with a community share out, where youth have the opportunity to explain their work and send a shout to a friend who’s work they admire.

In this class students will learn about the tattoo designs found on 3,000-year-old mummies and what Egyptologists believe they mean. Students will then get a chance to create their own mummies with tattoos of their choice!
