Day 1: Pyramids
All about the pyramids. Who built the pyramids? Why and how were they built?

Day 2: Mummies
Why did the Ancient Egyptians mummify the dead? Was everyone mummified? Were animals ever mummified? How did mummification work?

Day 3: The Pharaohs
What is a pharaoh? Who were the most important pharaohs in Ancient Egypt? Could women be pharaohs?

This multi-day class will be taught with Canva presentation slides, images, video clips, lecture, and discussion.

My teaching style is student centric and discussion based. Students are encouraged to ask questions and discuss what we are learning in class with their peers and teacher. No one is pressured to speak, but all are invited to participate in the discussion based on their comfort level.

Learning Goals

Students will gain a deeper understanding of Ancient Egypt, particularly pyramids, mummies, and pharaohs.

Other Details

Parental Guidance
Slavery will be mentioned in class because it was part of life in the Ancient World. Sadly, Ancient Egypt did have slaves and some theorize that the pyramids were built by slaves, although this has been disputed. Pharaohs ruled as living gods on Earth, which will be mentioned in class. Pharaohs often married siblings and other family members. Pharaohs sometimes even killed their own family. These topics will be mentioned, but not described in graphic detail. Pyramids and mummies will involve some discussion of death and preserving dead bodies. On Day 2, we will talk about the process of making the mummy, which involves some discussion of blood, guts, removal of organs, etc. Graphic images will not be shown, but this may not be a suitable for all students.
