Ready to become an Egyptologists? Don't worry, no experience necessary! This class is uniquely designed to provide ample opportunities for learning by using fun, hands on lessons and enrichment activities following each class! In this class we will learn about some of the most interesting parts of Ancient Egypt! Here is what you can expect for the week! Day One: Ancient hieroglyphs - We will take a field trip to Egypt and look at hieroglyphs. Once we have an understanding of this ancient language, students will get to decode secret messages and write their own! Day Two: Life After Death - In this class we will learn about the mummification process, burial rituals, and The Book of the Dead. Students will design their own tomb at the end of this class, although they may need to continue working on it at home. As an optional extension of the live class, students can go on virtual field trips of Egyptian tombs (these are external links that will be provided in the classroom). Day Three: The Ancient Egyptians believed in many gods. In this class we will learn about some of their most important gods, their roles, and how they looked. Students will design a tomb for a god (or themselves). Again, this may continue after class depending on time and complexity of their tomb. As an optional extension of the live class, students will create a graphic of their favorite god or create their own. Day Four: The Curse of the Mummy - What happened to the people who opened King Tutankhamun's tomb? Could there actually be a curse? I will present you with the facts that we know and then you will get to decide the answer to that question for yourself. As an optional extension of the live class, students will be directed to a video on YouTube to learn more about this famous Pharoah. Day Five: Students will learn about the importance of the Nile river and how it impacted society. We will end our class with a virtual escape room!
Other Details
Parental Guidance
During the lesson that involved mummification there will be images of unwrapped mummies. We will also talk about how they removed organs from the dead. I will warn students during class before I show any images, but if they are sensitive to death this may not be the class for them.
Supply List
They will need access to common household crafts supplies like paper, pencils, crayons, markers, scissors or glue. For the optional extension activities, students are welcome to use whatever is available within their homes, there is no need to purchase specific materials. Ingredients for recipes will be provided 24 hours prior to the start of class so they have them if they choose to participate in those optional activities.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

Arizona Teaching Certificate in Elementary Education
Bachelor's Degree in Education from Northern Arizona University
Hello families! I’m Amanda and I am thrilled to have the opportunity to teach your learner! I love everything about education and feel consider being a teacher as part of who I am. It is my passion!
I have a bachelor's degree in elementary and special education, two active teaching licenses in Arizona and reading and ESL endorsements. I've been teaching since 2017 and I'm working towards a master's in child and adolescent development.
My goal as your learner’s teacher is to inspire them to be lifelong learners. Learning is scary and requires a lot of vulnerability to take chances knowing you could make a mistake. I pride myself on helping students feel safe, confident, and secure in themselves. I’ve always seen tremendous growth in students when they are in an environment that allows for them to safely make mistakes and learn from them.
I’m looking forward to meeting your learner and joining them in their educational journey!
