This class will be an introduction to taxes and how they impact our lives.

US Grade 3 - 6
This introduction to taxes will be a highly interactive class. We'll start off by talking as a group about the services learners enjoy in their communities that are typically paid for through taxes. Then, learners will work as a group to define what a tax is. We'll then discuss the three most popular taxes that Americans pay: sales, income, and property. The learners will be introduced to items that are typically taxed in each category and the idea that the tax rate varies by locality....
At the end of the course learners will know the definition of a tax, the three most common types in America, and have practiced calculating how much they will pay in taxes on certain items.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
We will refer to state tax tables for the learners' home states for the practice portion.
