Class Experience

In this lighthearted 4 meeting discussion based book club young learners will study The Rainstorm Brainstorm by Valerie Tripp from the American Girl Wellie Wishers series along with peers in order to promote friendship, social interaction, emotional intelligence, understanding of the natural world and creativity. Each week we will summarize and discuss a portion of the book using a pictorial plot line in class and complete a related learning activity or craft. Learners are invited to bring their doll friends along with them to class each week to join in the fun if they would like to. All learners will need a copy of The Rainstorm Brainstorm for their own personal use so that they are able to read the required book chapters at home with an adult prior to class in order to participate in the learning sessions. Learners will also need arts and craft supplies listed in the materials section of the class in order to complete some upcycling crafting activities. A detailed list of weekly activities will be provided in a course syllabus upon enrollment. It also is available upon request.

Week 1: Learners will read chapters 1 and 2 of The Rainstorm Brainstorm at home with an adult prior to class. In class we will summarize the chapter through group discussion and creating a pictorial time/plot line together. Please see course syllabus for activities and crafts.

Week 2: Learners will read chapter 3 of The Rainstorm Brainstorm at home with an adult prior to class. In class we will summarize the chapters through group discussion and continuing to create a pictorial time/plot line together. Please see course syllabus for activities and crafts.

Week 3: Learners will read chapters 4 and 5 of The Rainstorm Brainstorm at home with an adult prior to class. In class we will summarize the chapter through group discussion and continue creating a pictorial time/plot line together. Please see course syllabus for activities and crafts.

Week 4: Learners will read chapters 6 The Rainstorm Brainstorm at home with an adult prior to class. In class we will summarize the chapters through group discussion and continue creating a pictorial time/ plot line together. Please see course syllabus for activities and crafts.
