What's included

Homework
1-2 hours per week. Each week will include a list of 3-5 homework assignments (due in classes 2-8) that are designed to enhance the students understanding of the topics discussed. Students will choose the assignment that they are interested in to complete.

Welcome to Women in History! 

This class is part of an on-going series highlighting the lives of women throughout history. During each of these classes we will explore a brief biography of different women in history, their life, the society and culture that shaped them, and what contributions they made in their field. We will discuss how their lives would be different if they had been born in different times and cultures and what shaped them into achieving their goals.  

Week 1 - Junko Tabei - first woman to climb Mt. Everest
Week 2 - Rachel Carson - Environmentalist 
Week 3 -  Elizabeth Van Lew - Civil War Spy
Week 4 –  Temple Grandin - Austism Activist
Week 5 – Harriet Beecher Stowe - American Author
Week 6 -  Nellie Bly - American Investigative Journalist
Week 7 –  Dolly Partner - American Songwriter and Singer
Week 8 -  Katherine Johnson - American Mathematician 

Each week, by Wednesday evening (9pm PST) -

-I will email each student a link that weeks lecture and assignments. This will be on YouTube and is in a private account that is embedded into the Outschool classroom page.  
-  Assignments will consist of discussion and essay questions, short research topics, Youtube videos, and worksheets. These will be posted on the classroom page. 
- In my flex classes, each family can determine the level of participation in the course. 
- Communication will be done through the Outschool classroom.  
-I will check in with each student several times during the week to check on progress of the homework, address any questions, or to engage in a discussion about the topic covered. Each student is encouraged to message (through the Outschool classroom) me anytime they have any questions or thoughts about the class.  
- Each week, there may be additional articles, videos, or pictures that will be posted to the classroom page to engage students in open conversations about that weeks topic. 
-Please message me before the start of class if you have any questions.

Parental Guidance
This class will utilize Youtube videos for sharing of lecture videos, as well as supplemental lessons. All Youtube videos are embedded into the Outschool platform. This class may also utilize Kahoot. Learners will be given a direct link and game pin to play.

I have been an educator on Outschool since February of 2018. I have my MBA and MHA, both of which have taught me the value of conducting research and asking questions.  I have a passion for history, organization, reading, and learning. You can usually find me in the middle of 2-3 books or watching a documentary.

I am also an Outschool ACE Educator, which means that I continually seek out ways to improve my teaching skills and knowledge, as well as the learner experience.
