In this class students will learn about the only native cat found in Alaska: the lynx! We will talk about this incredible cat, considering what it looks like, how it behaves and where it lives. We will discuss the cyclical nature of the lynx population as well as other interesting details. After learning facts about lynx we will look at real lynx pelts so that students can use their scientific skills of observation to learn more deeply about this Alaskan animal. Although I do not have a lynx skull to show, we will discuss the features of a lynx skull and use a wolverine skull for size comparison.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! I'm Amy Davis and I'm passionate about teaching and helping kids learn. I am an 8th generation teacher and have taught kindergarten, 2nd, and 3rd grade in public school, right here in the hometown where I was born and raised. I have watched, helped, volunteered, and taught professionally my whole life. I believe that learning can and should be a part of real, everyday life. Looking for the opportunities to teach in everyday activities is so much fun—they’re everywhere! I love creativity and coming up with fun and engaging ways to learn. Now that I'm a mother, I'm having great fun living this out on a daily basis. I'm amazed at how much my daughters already know with just a little intentionality. I especially enjoy teaching reading and art, but every subject can be a thrilling experience with a little creativity!
