US Grade 1 - 4
In this class students will learn about huskies in Alaska. We will talk about what makes these dogs so helpful for people and what their daily care looks like. We will begin the class by reading a run read-aloud book about huskies and will follow up by discussing what it looks like for huskies when they are working as sled dogs. We will discuss the differences between freight dogs and race dogs, and how their instinctive desire to pull makes them great working dogs. After learning about the famous dog Balto and how he helped save the children of Nome, we will talk about the famous Iditarod race that is held yearly in Alaska.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! I'm Amy Davis and I'm passionate about teaching and helping kids learn. I am an 8th generation teacher and have taught kindergarten, 2nd, and 3rd grade in public school, right here in the hometown where I was born and raised. I have watched, helped, volunteered, and taught professionally my whole life. I believe that learning can and should be a part of real, everyday life. Looking for the opportunities to teach in everyday activities is so much fun—they’re everywhere! I love creativity and coming up with fun and engaging ways to learn. Now that I'm a mother, I'm having great fun living this out on a daily basis. I'm amazed at how much my daughters already know with just a little intentionality. I especially enjoy teaching reading and art, but every subject can be a thrilling experience with a little creativity!
