Alphabet, Pictures & Word Building. Literacy Activities & Kindergarten Readiness

Join in with other young learners and together we will use colorful alphabet letters and shaped pictures to build on your child's knowledge of letter names, sounds, and word building. Meeting two times per week in this four week class, we will cover several essential components of reading instruction including:

Phonemic Awareness - the ability to hear, identify, and make sounds in spoken words
Phonics - the combination of letters in written words with the sounds in spoken words
Fluency - the ability to read naturally with speed and accuracy
Vocabulary Development - understanding words used in print, and in speaking and listening
Comprehension - understanding and remembering to communicate what is read

In this class we will focus on building alphabet, phonemic awareness, and phonics skills which will lead to improved performance in fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. Using fun and engaging activities for the whole class gives learners the practice they need to learn about letters and sounds so they are better able to apply these skills in their own writing. Additional practice for at-home learning will also be provided as learners will benefit from exploring and repeating the various activities independently.
